What is the difference between Medical Search and AWSOM Search?
Answer
Our resources are divided into two different platforms by content: Medical and hard sciences are located in the Ovid portal, and soft sciences or humanities-based resources are located in the OCLC catalog. This allows researchers to refine results for a given search.
The Medical Search encompasses the entire Ovid platform, only pulling results from medical databases, journals, and other hard science resources. Results from UpToDate are always displayed to the right of the general search results, along with results from other specific databases (like Medline Ultimate) that might be relevant to your search.
A purple star next to a result denotes a search generated by the Ovid AI feature. Click Summarize for a comprehensive summary of the top ten AI-generated search results. Choosing the Advanced Search option will turn the AI search off.
The AWSOM Search is a larger search, encompassing all of our medical resources as well as the soft science and humanities resources that support our AWSOM whole-health thread. This search is conducted in our online catalog, OCLC, and will default to searching resources that AWSOM owns or subscribes to. There is an option to search holdings in libraries worldwide; this option is useful for Interlibrary Loan purposes, as you can search the holdings of other libraries if you cannot find a particular resource in the AWSOM holdings.
